Erik Paulsen's Votes Hurt Minnesotans

Congressman Erik Paulsen has consistently taken votes in line with his right-wing agenda, earning a 97.2% Trump score on fivethirtyeight.com, a voting record that does not reflect the views of his constituents.

For example, Paulsen:
  • Voted to repeal Obamacare and kick millions off of their health care.
  • Voted to allow Trump to keep his tax returns secret via his powerful position on the House Ways and Means Committee.
  • Voted to allow coal companies to dump toxic waste into thousands of miles of rivers and streams.
  • Voted to allow unrestricted access to guns for people who are so mentally ill that they cannot even manage their own social security benefits.
  • Voted for the GOP Tax Reform bill that would hurt the middle class and balloon the deficit.
  • Voted against protecting citizen's internet privacy.
  • Voted for the Concealed-Carry Reciprocity Act which would allow a permit holder from another state to enter Minnesota without a background check if their state does not require them.
  • Voted against fair pay for women.
  • Voted to repeal the individual mandate as part of the final GOP tax bill which will cause health insurance premiums to rise for millions of Americans.

Whether you are an Independent, Democrat or Republican we need a Congressman who represents the values of the majority of voters in Minnesota’s Third Congressional District, not a conservative ideologue.

Erik Paulsen Fails the Character Test

We Minnesotans are not just Minnesota Nice, we're also honest folks who expect honesty from our representative. Congressman Paulsen has consistently misled constituents to promote the Trump/Ryan agenda and to protect his own image. For example:
  • When the House introduced the AHCA plan that would raise premiums to unaffordable levels for many Americans, Congressman Paulsen said it would make insurance more affordable.
  • When the House introduced the Tax Reform bill, Congressman Paulsen claimed it would lower taxes for everyone. Non-partisan analysis, however, indicated that the GOP plan would raise taxes on many middle class Americans while giving tax breaks to the rich and ballooning the deficit. Despite the facts, Congressman Paulsen was willing to engage in a massive propaganda campaign to sell the plan that would be bad for Minnesotans.
  • When asked on TV about why he won't hold a town hall. he told the reporter that he's had "hundreds of town halls" when, in fact, his last public, face-to-face, pre-scheduled town hall was in 2011.

Erik Paulsen is not Providing Real Representation

Erik Paulsen is supposed to be the voice of his MN03 constituents in the United States House of Representatives. Refusing to hold a town hall, and even running away from us outside of a TV station, Erik has made it clear that he's not interested hearing in our voices. Instead of holding town hall forums, he'll hold grocery store pop-up events to use as photo-ops to create an image that he is available. Instead of rejecting the wildly unpopular AHCA bill that had a 17% approval rating, Congressman Paulsen ignored our concerns and voted for the bill anyway. Minnesota deserves real representation, and that's why we're intent on replacing Paulsen in 2018.
